A SHARED, LOCAL-FIRST MEMORY

A super brain
in your Mac notch.

A shared, local-first memory for you and your agents. Cortex watches your screen and builds context, so you and your agents can pick up where you left off.

YOUR DAY. A LITTLE MORE CONNECTED.
Ask Cortex On your Mac
YOU ASK

What time did Abhinav suggest for our call on LinkedIn?

CORTEX

Thursday at 2 PM, for 30 minutes. Abhinav suggested a quick call about the project.

01 / YOUR LOCAL MEMORY

Your screen becomes context.
Your AI gets the picture.

Chats, documents, and the pages you read. Cortex connects available screen text into a memory on your Mac, ready for you and your connected AI tools.

Text capture via macOS Accessibility. Coverage varies by app. Cloud models receive selected context when used.

02 / SHARED MEMORY FOR YOUR HARNESSES

Switch harnesses.
Keep your context.

Out of credits in Codex? Pick up in Claude. Cortex keeps tasks, decisions, and handoff notes together, so switching harnesses doesn't mean explaining everything again.

A common memory and task manager for your harnesses. Share work, update progress, schedule follow-ups, and hand off the next step across your agents.

Codex saves the work, decisions, and next steps to Cortex.

Illustrative workflow. Agents use the shared MCP bridge in sessions you open; Cortex doesn't launch agents automatically.

01 / SHARE

Hit a limit? Save your place.

The task, decisions, and next steps stay in Cortex when you leave a harness.

02 / HAND OFF

Open another harness.

Ask Claude, Codex, or OpenCode what is unfinished. The same context is waiting.

03 / CONTINUE

Continue without the recap.

The next agent reads the handoff, claims the task, and continues with context.

PERSONAL MEANS PERSONAL

Your memory.
Your space.

Cortex starts with a simple idea: your activity archive belongs on your device.

Stored on your Mac
Your captured text and search index stay local.
Capture on your terms
Start, pause, or stop capture, and exclude apps.
Cloud use, explained
When you use a cloud model, your question and selected context go to that provider. Common secrets are redacted; redaction isn't perfect.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Good questions.

A little more context about Cortex.

What is Cortex?

Cortex is a macOS memory assistant in development. It helps you search text from your computer activity, recall details, and answer questions with links back to the evidence.

Does it record my screen?

Cortex reads text exposed by the foreground app through macOS Accessibility. It doesn't create a video recording of your screen. Some apps and content don't expose readable text, so coverage varies.

Does everything stay on my device?

Your activity archive and search index stay on your Mac. If you configure a cloud model, your question and relevant context are sent to that provider to generate an answer. Provider privacy and retention terms apply.

Can I choose what Cortex remembers?

Capture starts only when you enable it. The desktop app includes start, pause, stop, and app exclusions. Private or unknown browser contexts and protected fields are skipped by the desktop capture pipeline.

Can I use it with my AI tools?

Cortex includes an MCP bridge for compatible AI clients to access its shared memory and task workspace. Setup is documented in the repository.

Can I download it yet?

A public installer isn't available yet. If you'd like to explore the project now, the source and macOS build instructions are available on GitHub.
